VRBO – Similar to Airbnb, VRBO is another popular vacation rental marketplace. VRBO, which stands for Vacation Rental by Owner, was the original player and has been in business since 1995. Unlike Airbnb, VRBO focuses exclusively on private residences, whereas Airbnb allows travelers to book private rooms.

Travelers who plan to visit traditional vacation destinations, such as the Amalfi Coast in Italy or Madrid in Spain will find better success on VRBO because they have a larger inventory in such touristy destinations.
